How to Maintain the Gift of God
GF David
Memorise: "…And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and yields, some a hundred times as much [as was sown], some sixty, and some thirty." — Matthew 13:1-23 (AMP)
Maintaining one's blessings requires a deep understanding of the importance of being prepared and staying vigilant. As the passage reminds us, if we're not prepared for God's gift, it can become a trap. This is evident in the story of the man who was given a Range Rover Sports, but wasn't equipped to handle the responsibilities that came with it. To maintain our blessings, we must be intentional about our walk with God, ensuring that our hearts are fertile ground for His word to take root. As Jesus said, "The word of God is living and active and full of power [making it able to penetrate the most hidden places of the heart]" (Hebrews 4:12 AMP).
One of the key ways to maintain our blessings is to avoid the thorns that can choke the word of God in our lives. These thorns can be internal, such as doubts and unbelief, or external, such as bad advisers and negative influences. We must be mindful of the company we keep and the thoughts we entertain, ensuring that they align with God's word. As the psalmist wrote, "I will meditate on Your precepts and give attention to Your ways" (Psalm 119:15 AMP).
Another crucial aspect of maintaining our blessings is to cultivate a heart of thanksgiving and contentment. We must learn to appreciate what God has given us, rather than comparing ourselves to others or envying their blessings. As Paul wrote, "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am, knowing how to be abased and how to abound" (Philippians 4:11-12 AMP).
Maintaining our blessings also requires us to be intentional about our spiritual growth and development. We must prioritize our relationship with God, spending time in prayer, worship, and study of His word. As Jesus said, "Man must not live and be sustained by bread alone, but by every word and expression of God" (Matthew 4:4 AMP).
Ultimately, maintaining our blessings is a matter of surrendering to God's will and trusting in His sovereignty. We must recognize that our blessings are not our own, but a gift from God, and that He has the right to do with them as He pleases. As Samuel said, "The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you" (1 Samuel 15:28 AMP). By surrendering to God's will and trusting in His goodness, we'll be like the seed that fell on good ground, producing a bountiful harvest and bringing glory to God.
Prayer/Confession:
Father, I surrender to Your will and trust in Your goodness. Help me prioritize my relationship with You and live a life that honors You. Give me the strength to endure hardships and trust in Your power in my weakness. May I be consecrated for Your purpose and may my life reflect Your glory. Help me maintain the blessings You've given me and walk in obedience to Your word, in Jesus' name, Amen.
