The Full Armour of God
GF David —
Memorise: "Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] stand up against the schemes of the devil."* — Ephesians 6:11 (AMP)
Actualising the full armour of God requires a deep understanding of the importance of being strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. As the passage reminds us, "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" (Ephesians 6:10 AMP). This means that we need to cultivate endurance, which is the ability to withstand challenges and persevere in our faith. Endurance is not just about physical strength, but also about spiritual resilience.
The full armour of God is not just a metaphor; it's a reality that we can experience in our daily lives. This armour includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Each piece represents a different aspect of our relationship with God, and we need to put them on consciously. The belt of truth reminds us to stand firm in our commitment to God's Word, whilst the breastplate of righteousness protects us from the attacks of the enemy.
To actualise the full armour of God, we need to prioritise our relationship with Him. "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13 AMP). This means surrendering our lives to God, allowing Him to guide us and empower us — through prayer, through reading the Bible, and through seeking guidance from mature believers.
The power of God is not just a theoretical concept; it's a living reality. "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP). This power enables us to overcome the schemes of the devil and to live a life that honours God.
Ultimately, putting on the full armour of God is not a one-off event; it's a daily process. "Pray in the Spirit at all times, with all kinds of prayers and requests" (Ephesians 6:18 AMP). As we prioritise our relationship with God, cultivate endurance, and access His power, we'll stand firm against the attacks of the enemy, and be able to say with confidence, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Prayer/Confession:
Father, I put on the full armour of You have given me — truth around my waist, righteousness over my heart, peace on my feet, faith as my shield, salvation as my helmet, and Your Word as my sword. I will not fight the enemy in my own strength, but stand firm in Yours, knowing that having done all, I am able to stand. In Jesus' name, Amen.
