How to Achieve an Excellent Spirit

Excellence is not first seen with the eyes. It is birthed in the spirit before it ever shows up in the natural. Proverbs 20:27 says, “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” Everything you will ever accomplish begins as a flicker on the inside before it becomes a flame the world can see.

Consider how God showed His true love for man. He didn’t just give Adam a garden. He gave him a choice. In Genesis 2:16 to 17, God said, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.” Right there in the middle of Eden stood a tree, untouched, waiting. God could have hidden it or forced obedience. Instead, He honored man with the dignity of choice. That is love in its purest form.

But choice comes with responsibility, and this is where many lose what God has given them. Genesis 2:15 tells us God put man in the garden “to dress it and to keep it.” Adam did not create the Garden of Eden, yet he lost it, not because God took it back, but because he failed to value and keep it. This is a spiritual law that still stands today. Whatever you do not value, you will eventually lose. A business, a talent, a relationship, a child, an opportunity.

This is why you must pay complete attention to anything God has placed in your hands. Daniel understood this well. Daniel 6:3 says “an excellent spirit was in him” because he was faithful in the small and the great. Do not devalue what God has given you because it seems small or familiar.

Understand this too. The devil has plans for your life, just as God does. He is watching for the moment you grow careless, so he can steal what was meant to be yours. Proverbs 4:23 instructs, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

An excellent spirit is a guarded spirit. Value what God has given you, protect it fiercely, and watch how it multiplies.
