How to Run at Elijah's Level

There is a level of anointing that does not just carry you, it accelerates you. 1 Kings 18:46 tells us that after Elijah prayed down fire and rain, "the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel." A prophet on foot outran a king in a chariot. That is not natural speed, that is supernatural acceleration. If you want to run at that level, there are things you must shed and things you must hold onto.

First, shed every weight that slows you down. Hebrews 12:1 says, "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." Sin will slow you. Fear will slow you. Doubt will slow you. Bad relationships and wrong associations will slow you. You cannot run at Elijah's speed while dragging what God never authorized you to carry.

Second, abstain from breaking the principles of success in life. God's principles are not suggestions, they are the rails that keep your race on track. Every believer who has ever derailed did not fail because the principles failed them, they failed because they stepped outside the principles.

Third, keep your consecration and do not break it, the way Samson did. Judges 16:20 gives us a sobering picture, Samson woke up and "wist not that the Lord was departed from him." He had broken his covenant so gradually that he didn't even notice the anointing had lifted. Guard your consecration daily. Do not assume it will remain simply because it was once strong.

Fourth, draw near to God in prayer and thanksgiving. Before Elijah ran, he prayed. Before he received fire from heaven, he built an altar. Speed in the spirit is preceded by intimacy with God. You cannot rush past the place of prayer and expect to run in power.

Finally, put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:11 instructs, "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Elijah did not just run fast, he ran protected. Speed without covering is exposure. Covering without speed is stagnation. You need both.

Elijah outran a king because his weights were gone, his consecration was intact, and his hand was on the plow with heaven's power behind him. That is the level God is calling you to run at. Lay aside the weight. Guard the covenant. Pray without ceasing. Put on the armor. Then run.
